A Holiday Season Print from the winter of 2019

 

    My inspirations for this print are from childhood storybooks, the Chinese New Year, and a deep longing for the snowy mountains. The stories of the Rabbit in the Moon and the Velveteen Rabbit in particular have always fascinated me, each with their own journey. In the corner I do include the 2020 Chinese Zodiac (the Year of the Rat) with a four-leaf clover in their hand as a good luck charm for the year ahead... In hindsight, I am glad I included this small detail! For the year ahead then was 2020...and we needed all the luck we could get. 

    The linocut printing itself was more experimental for me in this particular edition. I challenged myself to combine colors on the block itself to see what contrasting and textural elements I could create. I love this particular combination since it almost has a tie-dye effect to it, espcially in the water & sky!
